Homeless Prevention Funds

Sometimes community agencies are able to provide cash assistance to help people who are homeless or are in danger of becoming homeless. Homeless prevention funds is usually used to pay for security deposits, rent, and utility arrears. If you apply for homeless prevention funds you will need to demonstrate how you will pay for future bills. You may need to show proof and amount of your monthly income to qualify so if you have a pay stub from work, bring it.

To find the provider serving your area contact your CoC or:

  • If you’re a Chicago resident call 311 and say, “I want to find out more about Homeless Prevention Funds”

  • If you live in Suburban Cook County, call 877-426-6515

  • In all other counties, please see this list of current homeless prevention funds providers.

  • Youth who have had any involvement with DCFS can seek supports through their local Family Advocacy Center until the age of 30. To find the nearest FAC, call 866-459-6884.
