HOUSING ASSISTANCE & Homelessness Services

If you do not have a safe place to stay there are several options. The tiles below explain about different types of housing that might be available to you through contacting your local Continuum of Care or Illinois Department of Human Services Homeless Services. It is always okay to just call an agency in your area and understand what your options are. If you live in Chicago, you can go to the Streetlight App to find a bed to sleep in tonight.

Experiences of housing instability or homelessness happen. You are not the only one.

You may be eligible for housing support if you’ve recently navigated any of the following experiences:

  • In a shelter, transitional housing or hotel/motel paid by government or charity

  • On the street or other place not meant for human living (car, garage, park, abandoned building)

  • An institution (hospital, jail, juvenile detention) that the you are exiting and where you were a resident for 90 days or less AND you were living in shelter or place not meant for human living before entering. (For example, if you were living on the street and were arrested then released, you would be able to be prioritized for housing)

You might also be eligible for these types of housing if you do not have alternative housing and are:

  • In housing but going to be evicted in 14 days

  • In a hotel/motel where they cannot stay for more than 14 days

  • With family and friends but being asked to leave within 14 days
