Sexual Consent
What is Sexual consent?
RAINN defines sexual consent as an agreement between individuals to engage in sexual activity. In other words consent is saying or signing yes to sexual activity. In Illinois the legal age of consent for sex (penetration or sexual conduct) is 17.
Remember, if after giving your consent to sex, you can change your mind and say or sign no, the other individual must stop. You have the right to your own body and to make a decision about if, where, when, and why you have sex. If that right was taken away from you, if you have ever been forced to do something you did not want to do there are people you can talk to at ICASA or RAINN. If you choose to have sex, talk to your partner to make sure you are both on the same page about what you do and do not want to do. If you don’t feel like you heard consent from your partner, talk to them. Having equal power in sex is sexy.
