Emergency Shelters
Sometimes you may need a place to sleep and do not know where to go. Emergency shelters are one option. Where as some shelters may be open for 24 hours/7 days a week, unfortunately this is not the case for all shelters.
Some parts of Illinois have youth-friendly shelters but not all areas. There also might be rules and practices that are not friendly to youth. Shelters can also be a good place to find out about more resources for support. Do what is best for you. If you live in Chicago check out the Streetlight App to find a bed tonight. The Streetlight App can also help you find services in Suburban Cook County as well as the City of Chicago.
The length of stay varies by facility, but it is generally short-term. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development maintains a list of shelters in Illinois here.
