Transitional housing
< Back to homelessness prevention
Age: 18-24
Temporary or transitional housing is typically provided for up to 24 months for youth who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. This is typically in an apartment building or complex. Usually this housing includes supportive services as well. To determine if you are eligible you will have to go through an assessment with a housing specialist. The first step to determine eligibility is to reach out to your local Continuum of Care. If you’re in Chicago you can just call 311 (dial 311 and hit send!). You can say, “I’m experiencing homelessness, I’m __ years old, and I want to find out more about the coordinated entry process” You can also walk into most shelters and learn about how to undergo a housing assessment. Check out the Homeless Shelter Directory to find one near you.
